A1 ～てもいいですか

Meaning：

• “～ても  いいですか”is used to ask for permission.
• It means“May I ～?”or“Is it okay if I ～?”
• “～ても  いいです”is also used to give permission.

How to use：

[て-form] もいいですか

Example：

• 写真しゃしんを撮とってもいいですか。…ええ、いいですよ。／撮とってもいいですよ。- May I take a photo? …Yes, you may. / Yes, you can.
• ここに車くるまを止とめてもいいですか。…すみません。ちょっと。- May I park the car here? …I’m sorry, but you can’t.
• この資料しりょう、もらってもいいですか。…ええ、どうぞ。- May I have this document? …Yes, certainly.

A2 ～てはいけません

Meaning：

• “～ては  いけません”is used to say something is not allowed.
• It means“You must not ～”or“Do not ～.”

How to use：

[て-form] はいけません

Example：

• ここで飲のみ物ものを飲のんではいけません。- You must not drink here.
• 事務所じむしょでご飯はんを食たべてもいいですか。…いいえ、食たべてはいけません。- May I eat in the office? …No, you must not.

A3 ～ています①

Meaning：

• “～て  います”can also express a state that continues now as a result of a past action.
• The negative form of“しって  います”is“しりません”.

How to use：

[て-form] います

Example：

• Leeさんは結婚けっこんしています。- Mr. Lee is married.
• 母はははイタリアに住すんでいます。- My mother lives in Italy.
• 私は車わたし　　くるまを持もっていません。- I don’t have a car. / I don’t own a car.
• このドラマを知しっていますか。…はい、知しっています。／いいえ、知しりません。- Do you know this drama? …Yes, I do. / No, I don’t.

A4 ～ています②

Meaning：

• “～ています”is also used to express habitual actions that are done over a long period of time.

How to use：

[て-form] います

Example：

• 父ちちはTOYOTAで働はたらいています。- My father works for Toyota.
• 母ははは日本語にほんごを教おしえています。- My mother teaches Japanese.
• わたしはMacbookを使つかっています。- I use a MacBook.
• SONYはゲームやテレビなどを作つくっています。- Sony makes things like games and TVs.
