A1 ~へいきます
Meaning:
- Use へ after a place to indicate the direction of movement.
- The particle へ is also used with きます(come) and かえります(go home/return).
How to use:
[Noun(place)] へいきます
Example:
- 明日学校へ行きます。- I am going to school tomorrow.
- 去年日本へきました。- I came to Japan last year.
- 6時にうちへ帰ります。- I go home at 6:00.
- 日曜日どこへ行きますか。…デパートへ行きます。/どこも行きません。- Where are you going on Sunday? …I’m going to a department store./I’m not going anywhere.
A2 ~で~へいきます
Meaning:
- Use the particle で after a vehicle to describe how you travel. However, use あるいて without で when going on foot.”
How to use:
[Noun(vehicle)] で [place] へいきます
Example:
- バスで会社へ行きます。- I go to work by bus.
- 歩いてうちへ帰りました。- I went home on foot.
- 何で大阪へ行きますか。…新幹線で行きます。- How are you going to Osaka?”…I’m going by Shinkansen.
A3 ~と~へいきます
Meaning:
- Use と after a person to mean with [that person].
- For “alone,” use ひとりで (omit と).
How to use:
[Noun(person)] と [place] へいきます
Example:
- 家族と日本へ行きます。- I am going to Japan with my family.
- 一人でデパートへ行きました。- I went to the department store by myself (or alone).
- だれとアメリカへ行きますか。…友達と行きます。- Who are you going to the U.S. with?…I’m going with a friend.
A4 ~に~へいきます
Meaning:
- Attach に to specific dates or days.
- に can be omitted for days of the week.
- に is never used with relative time words, including “this week(こんしゅう)””next month(こんげつ)”and”this year(ことし)”.
How to use:
[Noun(date,day)] に [place] へいきます
Example:
- 3月15日に東京へ行きます。- I am going to Tokyo on March 15th.
- 金曜日(に)スーパーへ行きます。- I am going to the supermarket on Friday.
- いつ銀行へ行きますか。…来週行きます。- When are you going to the bank?…I’m going next week.
たんじょうび(birthday)


Example:
- 誕生日はいつですか。…12月22日です。- When is your birthday?…It’s on December 22nd.
