【意味】

「AかたがたB」…Aの機会を利用してBする、AついでにBする

【英語訳】

“AかたがたB” is used when you want to say that you take the opportunity of A to do B.

【補足】

• 以下のような言葉がよく使われる。

Aの言葉…「挨拶、お見舞い、報告、お礼、お祝い、お詫び」などの言葉をよく使う。

Bの言葉…「訪問する、訪ねる、伺う、参る、行く、来る」などの言葉をよく使う。

• 「がてら」も同じように使われる。

例）買い物がてら、最近新しくオープンしたカフェでコーヒーを飲んだ。

例文

• 帰省かたがた東京を観光する予定です。

　I plan to visit my hometown and also do some sightseeing in Tokyo.

• アメリカへ出張かたがた友人と食事した。

　While on a business trip to the U.S., I had dinner with a friend.

• 仕事の報告かたがたお礼を申し上げます。

　I’d like to take this opportunity to report on my work and express my gratitude.
