硬い表現で、友達や家族と話すときはあまり使わない。

例文

• ピアノをを習っているものの、まだ難しい曲は弾くことはできません。

　Although I am learning to play the piano, I cannot play difficult pieces yet.

• 彼女ができたものの、忙しくてまだデートに行けていない。

　I have a girlfriend, but I have been too busy to go on a date yet.

• 私のアパートは駅から遠いものの、静かで住みやいところにある。

　My apartment is far from the station, but quiet and easy to live in.

• スポーツジムの会員になったものの、ほとんど利用していない。

　I have a gym membership but rarely use it.

• 「任せてください」と言ったものの、やり始めたら意外に大変なことがわかって、不安になってきた。

　I said, “Leave it to me,” but once I started doing it, it turned out to be surprisingly difficult, and I began to feel uneasy.
