意味・用法
[意味]
「～せい」は、「～」が原因で悪い結果になったと言いたいときに使う。

N だ の ＋ せい
[補足]
理由がはっきりわかるときは「せいで」、はっきりわからないときは「せいか」を使う。
例文
- 家の目の前にマンションができたせいで、日が当たらなくなった。
Because of the construction of an apartment building right in front of our house, we no longer get any sun.
- 同僚の山田さんが休んだせいで、今日は残業しなければならなくなった。
Because my colleague Yamada-san took the day off, I had to work overtime today.
- エアコンが壊れたせいで、暑くて寝られない。
The air conditioner is broken and it is too hot to sleep.
- 不景気のせいで、給料が全く上がらない。
Due to the recession, salaries have not increased at all.
- 遅刻したのは、渋滞のせいです。
I was late because of the traffic jam.
- 佐藤さんが会社を辞めたのは、上司のパワハラのせいです。
Mr. Sato quit the company because of power harassment by his boss.
- 彼のせいで、映画の時間に間に合わなかった。
Because of him, we were not on time for the movie.
- 私は悪くありません。全部、彼のせいです。
It is not my fault. It is all his fault.
- 電車が遅れたせいで、大事な会議に遅刻してしまった。
Because the train was delayed, I was late for an important meeting.
- 昨日夜更かししたせいで、今日は眠くてたまらない。
Because I stayed up late last night, I’m extremely sleepy today.
- 運動不足のせいで、すぐに疲れてしまう。
Because of my lack of exercise, I get tired easily.
- 食べ過ぎたせいで、お腹が痛くなった。
Because I ate too much, I got a stomachache.
- 年を取ったせいか、体重が５キロも増えた。
Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I’ve gained 5 pounds.
- 最近あまり寝ていないせいか、体の調子が悪い。
My body is not feeling well, probably because I haven’t been sleeping much lately.
- 緊張しているせいか、お腹が痛くなってきた。
My stomach is starting to hurt, probably because I’m nervous.
- クリスマスが近づいているせいか、なぜか寂しさを感じるようになってきた。
Perhaps it is because Christmas is approaching, but for some reason I am starting to feel lonely.
